In November 2023, Omegle — the original random chat platform — shut down permanently after 14 years. Founder Leif K-Brooks posted a farewell letter explaining that the site had become the target of a major federal lawsuit alleging that Omegle facilitated the abuse of a minor. Rather than fight a battle he described as "financially and psychologically" unbearable, he chose to close it down entirely.
The shutdown left tens of millions of monthly users without a home. Search interest for "Omegle alternative" spiked to record highs overnight and has remained elevated ever since. The reality is that the desire to connect with strangers online hasn't gone anywhere — the platform just disappeared. eZfan was built to be what Omegle should have been: an open, serendipitous way to meet people, with the moderation infrastructure and creator tools that make it sustainable for the long term.
